I heard the usual sound of one of the reds laying an egg.....or, so they have a tendency to mis-lead sometimes LOL.....so, I walked into the hen house and little miss red was just climbing into a nest box that already had eggs in it.
With the skill that I have developed with the hens from feeding them bread several times a week or so, they are used to me being around and so she didn't seem to mind my presence......until she got herself situated ....and so did I. She began to fuss the closer I got with my camera.......I was like..."don't tell me you're camera shy woman!"......ha. She was graceful enough to allow me a few good shots.
I've happend to grow pretty fond of these red hens...and have the tendency to be the "mother hen" of them all due to trying to keep them from being swooped away by the chicken hawks in our area. The shot-gun hangs above the cabin door now.......just the piece of decor I've dreamed about for so long!
Oh, the joys of living next door to the chicken yard! LOL
