I'm hanging my head in shame.....to report.
Friends, Family and Foe.......Royal Farm has a criminal....a culprit.
He committed a crime of chasing a red hen in front of my mother.n.law and then back-talked when he was told to go to bed.
It was hard to swallow this afternoon when I looked around for the "womanizer".....you know who.....and all was unusually quite.
Everyone seemed to be getting along.
After all.....it did come to my attention that there were no hens running for their very lives....because of a fiery red rooster.
Yes...I do believe you now know to whom I am referring to.
Let me give you a visual. This is the culprit.
One look at that little face...and you KNOW......you just know that he is up to something.
Pretty boys don't always live under such innocent minds.
I noticed him in a place this afternoon.....a place that all un-ruly roosters go for a time of ......(ahem) thinking.
I pray tonite for Senor Rusty. He needs.......a change from his bully-like ways and to acquire to the ways of a "gentleman".
My mother.n.law told me that she had come to the chicken yard to find everyone had already put themselves up for bed time......except Rusty.
He then continued chasing one of the red hens around and around.....spurring and fussing his little feathered self all around.
Finally, my mother.n.law caught the red hen, made sure all was well, put her to bed.
The stand-off was on! He had encountered the "Main Boss!.
The "Land-Lord Lady"....she doesn't allow for curfew after hours in the chicken yard.
He stood at the door of the banty house ( the house he sleeps in with the rest of the banty's)..........
She stood and fussed at him....he literally did his little feathered feet dance and fussed back!!! At HER!!!
If you are a chicken or a rooster here...you don't talk back to the "Main Boss".....tst....tst...tst.
He finally got fed up and joined the rest of the gang that had calmly and routinely went to bed.
She later went back out to the yard and decided it was time for an attitude adjustment.
He got put in time out. Has to sit in the corner. If he behaves, he can come back out to play.......nicely.
It's just as hard for my mother.n.law to have to put him in "time out" because he is so stinking cute and we have all enjoyed watching him chase and then stomp his little feathered feet......he is almost too cute for his own little self.
A change of rank has now occurred amongst the roosters......Senor Concho stepped out of his role of being second today.
Oscar is showing a gentler side....which we are hoping he gets to be the main guy ...amongst his crew.
I really like him so far.
He seems so suave and has a curious way about him....but, calm.
His legs are so long and his tail is beginning to show a bit of green tint in them as well.
This afternoon I treated everyone with a bit of watermelon rind......you would have thought the party was on!
Senor Concho was actually out showing off his fluffy self this afternoon since Rusty has to sit in the corner.
I was kinda happy to see him strolling around....as if he is discovering a new world.........full of beautiful girls!!
He even joined in the melon party.
And went for a melon dive!
I had a bit of a heavy heart later this evening when we were making sure all the girls and boys were tucked in......one of the older red production hens is no longer with us.
Getting a bit attached is not getting any easier for me . But, I can't help it.
Especially when they are sitting on my handrail, greeting me at my car, following me around to see what's in my hand.
In to each life some rain must fall........even when it is sunshine outside.
Well, maybe tomorrow I'll plant a new flower ...........or bake a cake.
Till next time....
Over and out.....
